Hands-on reviews of Acer’s Predator Helios 700, Helios 300 (2019), Nitro 7 and upgraded Nitro 5 – the four new gaming laptops revealed at Acer’s launch, along with Intel’s new 9th generation Core i5, i7 and i9 chipsets!
The Predator Helios 700 is the headline stealer here, even if the other gamer notebooks are slimmer and lighter. This beast boasts the all-new Extreme Mode, where the keyboard slides down to reveal dual fans to prevent throttling. Combined with the Intel Core 9th gen platforms, and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2070 or 2080, you can expect insane performance for a laptop – ideal for PubG and other top titles.
The Helios 700 was joined by Acer’s updated version of the 300, with upgraded specs for 2019 gaming. This comes in 15.6 or 17.3-inch sizes, unlike the 17-inch 700, with a GeForce RTX 2060 or 2070. And this time you get a choice between 8th or 9th generation Intel chipsets.
Last up, the more affordable gaming Nitro machines were launched. While the Helios 300 and 700 cost from £1200 and £2500 respectively, the Nitro 5 and 7 are priced from £700 and £1000 in the UK. These too sport up to 9th gen Intel platforms, in a slim and relatively light form factor. All of these new Acer gaming notebooks sport a Full HD display with 144Hz refresh rate.
